How to Wash Slippers and House Slippers?

Panduf ve Ev Terliği Nasıl Yıkanır?

House slippers are among the most frequently used products in living spaces, especially during the winter months. Designed in different materials and styles, they help keep feet warm on cold winter days. Terry cloth slippers, fleece-lined slippers, slipper bootie styles, or fluffy socks… Women’s and men’s house slippers, available in a wide range of styles and options, often need cleaning. House slippers should be cleaned regularly to keep them soft, comfortable, and hygienic for a long time. So, how do you wash slipper booties? Let’s take a look together at the details to keep in mind when cleaning slippers and slipper booties.

How to Clean Slipper Booties and House Slippers

You need to wash your house slipper booties to clean and sanitize them. You can wash your slippers either in the washing machine or by hand. Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • Brush
  • Laundry detergent
  • Fabric softener
  • Wet wipes
  • Laundry bag

Regardless of their material, you can easily clean your slippers using the right methods and extend their lifespan. When cleaning slippers, be sure to thoroughly clean the inside in particular, as bacteria on slippers start to grow there first. This is also what causes the persistent unpleasant odor. To clean cotton and polyester slippers, as well as styles made with faux fur, and remove odors, follow these steps:

  • Wipe the soles: If you’ve worn your slippers outdoors, thoroughly wipe the soles with a damp cloth or wet wipe to remove any mud or dirt.
  • Machine washing: If you decide to wash your slippers in the washing machine, place them in the machine. If your slippers are made of fabric, you can wash them with items of a similar color and fabric. However, for hygiene reasons, it’s best to wash slippers on their own. You can use a laundry bag for this. This helps prevent your slippers from getting damaged or losing their shape. Then add liquid laundry detergent to the detergent compartment and a small amount of fabric softener to the softener compartment. Set the machine to 30 degrees and run a short, low-spin cycle. Once the wash is finished, remove the slippers from the protective bag and leave them to air-dry. Make sure to dry your slippers somewhere out of direct sunlight, as sunlight can cause their colors to fade.
  • Hand washing: Another way to clean your house slippers is to wash them by hand. Fabric slippers can easily be washed in warm water in the sink with a little detergent. First, place the slippers in the soapy water and leave them to soak for at least 30 minutes to loosen the dirt. Then gently squeeze out the water and drain the soapy water. Finally, rinse your slippers and leave them to air-dry. You can also absorb excess water from the slippers with a paper towel or regular towel. Make sure your slippers are in their original shape and place them somewhere well ventilated to dry. If you’re worried that the slippers might lose their shape, you can stuff them with paper towels or white tissue paper. Don’t use newspaper for this, as it may leave ink stains on your slippers. Replace the paper inside as the slippers dry.

How to Remove Stains from Slipper Booties and House Slippers

If you have Suede or leather slippers, they should only be hand-washed, and stains should be treated with special sprays and dyes suitable for the material they’re made of. If your slippers have dirt or food stains, or their insoles are very dirty, use an effective detergent to remove the stains. Apply the detergent thoroughly to the stained area with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush. Leave the slippers to soak with the detergent for at least 15 minutes before machine-washing or hand-washing them. Then proceed with washing.
